NIH Extends Deadline for Applications for Drug Abuse Research Using Existing Data

The expiration date for applications to the Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA), PAR-13-080 "Accelerating the Pace of Drug Abuse Research Using Existing Data (R01)" has been extended to May 8, 2016.

Under this FOA, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), and the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences (OBSSR) encourage applications for drug abuse research that will analyze public-use and other extant community-based or clinical datasets to their full potential in order to increase the knowledge of etiology, trajectories of drug using behaviors and their consequences, risk and resilience in the development of psychopathology, strategies to guide the development, testing, implementation, and delivery of high quality, effective and efficient services for the prevention and treatment of drug abuse and HIV.

In particular, this FOA invites applications for innovative analyses of extant data -- new aims that can be addressed with existing data, new or advanced methods of analyses, or novel combination and integration of datasets to allow the exploration of new questions.

NAHDAP encourages researchers to select from the many drug abuse datasets in its archive and submit applications to this FOA.

The students, under the supervision of faculty mentors, develop a research question, perform a literature search and review, complete data analysis, and report findings in a poster; learn good data management processes and research practices with a research process mentor; and attend classes at the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods.
